System Brief                  – Currently, Machine Readable Passports are issuing in three types as Ordinary Passport, Diplomatic Passport and Official Passport. Ordinary Passports are issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs Yangon, Mandalay and 15 Passport Issuing Offices in the 15 States and Divisions and Myanmar Embassies in the 43 countries under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ordinary Passports are valid for 5 years and issued more than 400 thousand per year. Diplomatic Passports are issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at NayPyiTaw. Diplomatic Passports are valid for 10 years and issued one hundred per year. Official Passports are issued by Consular Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at NayPyiDaw. Official Passports are valid for 5 years and issued 10 thousand per year.

When the citizens applied passport they have to fill up application form at passport issuing offices. Then the office has to undergo taking photo, entering personal data into the system, get two fingers print and signature. Then the applications and documents are sent to the Yangon HQ through internet or by CD ROM. Background history checking and verification with black list are made by SB. Then approved passports are printed at the passport issuing office, Yangon. Passports are printed using passport printer and overlaid by Hologram Laminate on the data page for security. The passport comprised of 48 pages. Passports are issued to the applicant through their initially applied office.
